Rough Week for Training

It's been a rough week for training.  Hopefully, this is a good sign like in theatre.  If the dress rehearsal was bad, opening night would be wonderful.

Last Sunday, I had ridden to Centralia and ridden 40 miles on Monday.

Tuesday 6/4  - 25.5 in 2 hours 16 minutes to Centralia, around town and back to the church in Sturgeon.

Wednesday 6/5 - Trying to beat the incoming rain -- AGAIN! 19.8 miles 1 hour and 40 minutes
to Centralia, around town and back to the church in Sturgeon.

I was trying to get in 250-300 miles, after four days I had done 105 miles, but was struck with a sore ITB (that's not a picture of my knee!)   so I knocked off the training a LOT.
No biking, just rest and stretching the knee on Thursday.  It was significantly better on Friday, but I still wanted to take it easy and test it carefully.

Friday 6/7  I rode around Moberly, 8.8 miles in 48 minutes.

Saturday 6/8 I was able to ride back to Centralia and around town again  22.1 miles in 1 hour 58 minutes.

I'm taking a couple more days off, Sunday and Monday, to allow the ITB to finish healing, and it's raining again! I leave for the ride one week from today!

June 1 - On my rain free Saturday --  10.1 miles 55 minutes just in and around Sturgeon.  I needed to get back for a family reunion.  In the month, (May 1 to June 1) I have been able to train -- I have ridden 306.4 miles.  That seems like a lot until you realize that I'll ride 253 miles in 5 days.

Two weeks from today, I check in for the big ride.  I rode to Centralia and back 20.5 miles in 1 hour and 48 minutes before church.

The weather was supposed to be nice, I found a way to get dropped off --everything was supposed to be terrific.  Then the river rose, so no biking the trail until it recedes.  So I had to come up with another way to get safely get some long distance riding in.  I got in 40 miles in 3 hours and 20 minutes.  The route is pictured above -- then I retraced my route, and finished riding around in Sturgeon.

Two weeks left. . . and making more summer plans

Wednesday - I got a good ride in between the rains  30.6 miles in 2 hours and 42 minutes.  Down the MKT Trail to McBaine then back to Columbia, then back down the MKT trail to Perche Creek.  They closed the trail from Perche Creek to McBaine, but only posted it on the side I wasn't on - so I only went through and returned once.  That was twice too many.  All the heavy rains had washed away the chat on top and left the big rocks below AND in another place left a mud/sludge puddle.  So around a corner right into the mud, up the back, splattered on the front, and into the hair, then over the rocks.

Thursday - I snuck in a quick 5.3 miles in Sturgeon between rain storms.   I hope to be able to do the same tomorrow.  I'm making plans for a couple of big rides next week - the weather is supposed to be perfect 70's and no rain!

Other vacation plans are being made too.   After the bike ride check out the blog again just after the 4th of July and then again at the beginning of August!

SCHOOL'S OUT! Three weeks left to train

Friday - Today's the first day of summer vacation from school.  I was up even earlier than I would have been had I been going to school.  I was on the bike before 6 - and rode this route

21 miles in 1 hour and 43 minutes.  I am hoping to get another training ride in before it rains tomorrow morning.  Riding in the morning is MUCH easier, though it was VERY cold 46 degrees this morning when I left.

Saturday - I left a little later than yesterday, hoping it would warm a little.  Instead I got a head wind going,  and had to call for a pick up on the way back due to the thunder and lightening. I ride the route going and coming back.  I got to Centralia, but had to stop at the little red star.
Instead of getting in 30 miles before we go to the movie with friends - I got 16 miles in 1 hour and 28 minutes.  Tomorrow is a new day to try to training again.  I'm hoping the weather clears - forecast is for rain today, tomorrow and Monday.

It rained!
Sunday it rained!
Monday it rained!
A little over six inches at home in the past couple of days.

Tuesday - I rode around Centralia today in the sprinkles anyway.  12.3 miles in 1 hour and 12 minutes.

Training Weekend 4 weeks left

With only 4 weeks left, I really need to train.  School gets out in 4 days so I can spend more and more time on the bike.

Yesterday I rode around town, with rain threatening the whole time so I rode 7.6 miles in 40 minutes.

Here's Saturday's plan -
I rode from Sturgeon Baptist Church to the Centralia city square, back and then around Sturgeon for a while.  26.5 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Sunday's plan-

The  MKT Trail starts near campus and runs to the Katy Trail near McBaine. I started in McBaine, went to Columbia, back to McBaine then back to Columbia 26.7 miles in 2 hours and 19 minutes.

Sunday, April 14, 2013

I am finally starting to get my training routine back.  I had it going on most of the winter, until late February.  Now I really have to get myself back in shape.

Saturday - I rode an hour inside this morning and went 16.5 miles.  That doesn't even get me half way though a short day.  I want to get in a couple of 70 mile rides in a weekend, so I will feel like I can do this.  I also got in an afternoon ride of 11 miles.  -- 17.5 for the day!

Sunday - I rode 11.3 miles in the house this morning before church and FINALLY got out on my bike this afternoon.  I rode 7.1 miles in 38 minutes in 30mph winds.

Friday, April 12, 2013

I'm finally on just about done with the "getting ready" for the ride.  Now it's time to get serious about training, on a real, two wheeled bicycle.  This week I've ridden the stationary in the house

Sunday- Finished my Master's project
Monday 16.2 miles inside training
Tuesday 14.3 miles inside training
Wednesday - no riding, dealing with getting new orthotics
Thursday 17.4 miles inside training
Friday 21.5 miles inside training and ordered new pedals with clips!

Yes, I am cold-phobic so it's not been warm enough for me to go outside yet.  I am hoping for Sunday when it's supposed to be 70 degrees.

The big ride.

I signed up to bike the entire Katy Trail this summer -- right now I am working on finishing my Master's degree, finishing teaching this year at school -- and training as much as I can.  I hope to be on the outside bike by Sunday!
